A conditional green card is issued when a marriage-based green card is approved, and the marriage was less than two years old at the time. The card is valid for two years, not the standard ten. 

To keep your permanent resident status, you must file Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, within the 90-day window immediately before the card expires. Filing too early gets the petition rejected. Filing late requires a written explanation and creates unnecessary risk.
